ABOUT ME
On leaving school I spent a year working at a Mother Teresa home in Calcutta (as you do), before studying Philosophy at the University of Nottingham. Three years later, after pondering whether we exist (and if we do how do we know?) it was time to join the real world. Unfortunately, Philosophy isn't really the best preparation for this. So it was that I spent the next few years living in Egypt and Portugal, teaching English at the American University in Cairo and the British Council. Teaching is great; you get to travel the world, meet lots of interesting people and hear them make hilarious mistakes, most of which I can't repeat here. When I returned to Britain I was lucky enough to get a job as a marketing executive for Pearson Education. It was here I first gained experience of implementing campaigns, writing copy and delivering large scale presentations. These skills were honed when after a couple of years I moved to Cambridge University Press, where I worked for five years as a marketing manager in the English Language Teaching division. The decision to work for myself came to me whilst convalescing from a shattered first metatarsal. There is nothing quite like severe trauma, enforced inactivity and four walls to spur your brain into thinking what you might do differently. So here I am. All of which leads me to think that perhaps wearing sandals whilst shifting a railway sleeper in the garden wasn't such a bad idea after all.
